Imagine that you're a lowly imp who's tired of being picked on by all of the other demons. How do you show them who's boss? Why, by going on a quest through a deep dungeon to take it over of course!
That's the concept behind MidBoss, the latest computer game from Kitsune Games.
In MidBoss, players begin as a weakling imp, but that doesn't last for long. Each time a player defeats an enemy, they get to posses its body and use their newfound powers to continue on the quest down to the dungeon's final boss. The dungeon itself is procedurally-generated and it's filled with monsters, traps, potions, treasures, and more. Players can loot items and gear to further enhance their stats... or not. Some items are cursed. By the way, should the player find his or her demise before finishing the game, they'll get a little souvenir by way of a Death Card that documents exactly how the character died. Death cards can then be used to replay the game with the same seed and settings.
“MidBoss started life as a Ludum Dare project in 2012.," says Kitsune Games' CEO Emma ‘Eniko’ Maassen. "Like our little imp, the game had a habit of ‘possessing’ unsuspecting onlookers – getting them hooked right away. It’s been gratifying to see the game evolve, thanks to our loyal beta testers’ feedback and support. We can’t wait for everyone’s Death Cards to start popping up on Twitter."
MidBoss is now available on Steam and itch.io for PC, Mac, and Linux for $14.99. Kitsune Games says that a Windows Store version will be available later this year.
