Fans of the Xenogears video game have some new ear candy to enjoy as Materia Collective releases Omega: A Tribute to Xenogears.
In it, Yasunori Mitsuda's original Xenogears soundtrack gets a fullly-arranged makeover with 130 performers and more than two hours of music. This includes tracks by the Videri String Quartet, composer Dale North (Wizard of Legend), voice actor Joe Zieja (Star Fox Zero) and YouTube sensation String Player Gamer alongside performances by Wilbert Roget II (Call of Duty: WWII), Kristin Naigus (Minecraft), and many others.
"The Xenogears soundtrack is largely responsible for my own path to becoming the video game music composer I am today," reflects album producer Chris Porter. "Before I even knew that you could buy video game soundtracks, I would fire up Xenogears and just let the music play as I listened blissfully through my TV speakers. When I taught myself how to play guitar, I used to figure out melodies from the game by ear, often from memory. Overseeing the production of Omega was an experience like none I've ever had. I was moved to tears countless times as I heard everyone's arrangements. Omega is a love letter to Xenogears and its timeless soundtrack. I hope it brings many hours of enjoyment to everyone who listens."
According to Materia Collective, every track from the Xenogears soundtrack is included on the album. They further say that there are also a few surprises sprinkled in.
Omega: A Tribute to Xenogears is available via Bandcamp, Spotify, and iTunes.
