Impact Gameworks' fantasy dungeon-crawler, Tangledeep, is now available on Nintendo Switch.
Tangledeep is described by its developer as a tribute to the golden age of RPGs," The game was inspired both visually and audibly by classic games such as Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger. It features strategic, turn-based gameplay that combines the accessibility and polish of those games while also drawing inspiration from rogue-likes like NetHac, Shiren the Wanderer and Diablo.
Tangledeep boasts a robust character job system and huge assortment of equipment that players can use to create a unique experience with each playthrough. To further the in-game variety, the game's dungeons are procedurally-generated and gives players the choice between three play modes That includes Adventure Mode, which removes permadeath for the more casual crowd. Furthermore, the game's soundtrack was composed by award-winning composer Andrew Aversa (a.k.a. Zircon), who was joined by industry legends Hiroki Kikuta (Secret of Mana), Grant Kirkhope (Banjo-Kazooie), and Norihiko Hibino (Bayonetta).
“Tangledeep is a roguelike for purists and newcomers alike. If you’re into permadeath and narrow escapes, you’ll be thrilled. At the same time, if you’ve never played a roguelike in your life, you can avoid permadeath altogether while exploring, looting, and facing monsters floor after floor," says lead devleoper Andrew Aversa. "I made Tangledeep to celebrate my love for classic 16-bit SNES RPGs – not only in terms of pixel art, but also the music that sounded so incredible and that is still beloved by millions today. I'm so happy that my game is finally coming to the Switch – and that it includes music from some of the greatest game composers ever!”
Tangledeep will also be available to download from the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch before mid-year.
