According to numbers provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the company's PlayStation 4 video game console sold very well over the course of this past holiday shopping season.
Sony's figures place the PS4's sales for the 2016 holiday season at more than 6.2 million units. That means that the gaming console has sold more than 53.4 million units globally as of the beginning of this year since its release in November of 2013. Sony also says that sales of PS4 game software over the 2016 holiday shopping season surpassed 50.4 million copies.

"We will aim to continue the momentum this year by broadening the PS4 title portfolio, further enriching the revolutionary gaming experiences on PlayStation VR and high quality gaming experience on PlayStation 4 Pro, while also expanding network services. We will remain steadfast in making the PS4 the best place to play."
The PlayStation 4 video game console is currently available in 123 countries and regions worldwide.
