Tom Brady, a five-time Super Bowl Champion and the subject of NFL scandals such as 2015's "Deflategate", will be the face of EA Sports' Madden NFL 18 video game.
Launching Aug. 25, this year’s version of the game will be powered by the Frostbite engine. Frostbite was developed by EA DICE for its Battlefield series. Electronic Arts says it will deliver "a significant visual leap not only to the players, but crowds, stadiums and more."
“The Madden NFL 18 cover is a great honor for me,” said Brady. “Especially since I have been playing the game since growing up next to EA headquarters in the Bay Area.”
Tom Brady's appearance on the Madden NFL 18 cover marks the first time in the franchise's history that teammates have been featured on a Madden game in consecutive years. Last year, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was the cover athlete for Madden NFL 17.
In addition to the Tom Brady announcement, Electronic Arts also revealed that there will be two distinct editions - a standard edition and a "Greatest of All Time" (or, "G.O.A.T.) edition - of Madden NFL 18. Those who pre-order the standard edition will get the game software, the choice of an Elite player from their favorite NFL team for use in Madden NFL 18's Ultimate Team play mode, as well as five Squad Packs, redeemable at launch. If the G.O.A.T. Edition is pre-ordered instead, folks will get everything in the standard edition's pre-order incentive as well as one of five G.O.A.T. players of their choice for Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team, a three-day early access period pre-launch, and more. EA has not yet unveiled what players will make up the five G.O.A.T. options.
Madden NFL 18 is developed in Orlando, Florida, by EA Tiburon and will be available worldwide on Aug. 25 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
