'Guilds of Ravnica' Theme Boosters, Guild Packs detailed by WotC WOTC

Wizards of the Coast is providing new details on the upcoming Guilds of Ravnica expansion for CCG Magic: The Gathering.

Building off of how Theme Boosters for Dominaria performed, the Guilds of Ravnica Theme Boosters are 35-card booster packs.  Whereas in Dominaria where all of the cards in the pack shared a single color and included one rare or mythic rare card, Guilds of Ravnica's will be a little different.

They'll still contain 35 cards including one rare or mythic rare, but they won't be all of a single color.  Instead, each Theme Booster will be based on a two-color guild (Boros, Selesnya, Izzet, Dimir, or Golgari) found in the set.  Designed for beginners, WotC says "the idea is to let them expand their collection with colors that they’re already invested in."

The Guilds of Ravnica Guild Kits are quite a bit different than the Theme Boosters.  Rather than really big booster packs, Guild Kits are ready-to-play 60-card decks that are themed around the five guilds in Guilds of Ravnica.  They also include guild-themed swag such as pins, stickers, and a spindown life counter.  They are not, however, limited to cards from the Guilds of Ravnica set as they will instead include cards from all of the current and previously-released Ravnica sets including the original Ravnica block and the more recent Return to Ravnica block.

"They’re also designed to play well against each other," states Wizards of the Coast via the Wizards Play Network.  "We’ll have more details on the actual cards inside once we get closer to release."

The Guilds of Ravnica Guild Kits are expected to release Nov. 2 just in time for Magic's Ravnica Weekend.  The Theme Boosters are scheduled for release on Oct. 5 -- the same street date as the set itself.
