Nintendo unveils a special Pokémon 3DS XL system in preparation of November's launch of Pokémon Moon and Pokémon Sun.
Releasing Oct. 28, the limited-edition Nintendo 3DS XL unit carries a $199.99 price tag and features slick black color with both of the new Legendary Pokémon -- Solgaleo and Lunala -- on the cover. The new Pokémon games do not come bundled with the hardware. That's partially because they won't be out yet and partially because a "normal" 3DS XL sells for around the same price.
Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser says they're putting out this special edition of the 3DS XL hardware in part to mark two decades of Pokémon games.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved Pokémon series and people have never been talking about Pokémon more,” comments Bowser. “Playing Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon on this new Pokémon system is the best way for fans to show their love for this iconic series.”
Once the new games themselves launch on Nov. 18, gamers will have the option to puck up the Pokémon Sunand Pokémon Moon Dual Pack. Both games come included in the pack as well as a pair of codes that unlock 100 Pokéballs each. The Dual Pack will be available at select retailers at a suggested retail price of $79.99.
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, which takes place in the tropical Alola Region composed of numerous islands, includes a number of new features including a new battle system called "Battle Royal", powerful new "Z-Moves", and the ability to ride several different Pokémon with "Poké Ride".
The games are rated "E for Everyone" by the ESRB.
