A new member in Nintendo's 2DS/3DS family of portable gaming systems is coming out on July 28 as Nintendo Thursday announced the new 2DS XL.
Carrying a retail price of $149.99 -- half the price of the recently released Nintendo Switch -- the new 2DS XL will be available in a black/turquoise color scheme and will have the same screen size as the 3DS XL. Unlike the 3DS, however, the 2DS will only display visuals in 2D. Like the 3DS, however, the 2DS will have amiibo cards and figurine support.
“This new addition to Nintendo’s portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the hand-held market,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO, on Nintendo's official website. “New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a beautiful clamshell design and offers a great balance between price and performance.”
Nintendo's new 2DS XL will be compatible with all game software currently available for the current 2DS and 3DS systems.
