While not as obscure as series like Gex, Crash Bandicoot isn't exactly remembered today. He was big in the 90's, and was briefly the face of Playstation. He even had a Simpsons parody his game once. For the series to come back, it needs to be more than just a simple port – and the updated N. Sane Trilogy delivers.

All three Crash Bandicoot games have been modernized, while still keeping the 90's feel. Whereas 90 years ago fires were an explosion of yellow and orange pixels vaguely resembling fire, it all looks too real here. It's still kept cartoony, but things like nature and vegetation look more on the real side. Crash himself is much better animated, while keeping with the pace of the games they're updating. I don't usually like it when games do overhauls like this to bring back a franchise, but it totally works.

Also new is a new playable character – his sister Coco. It's a smart move, and brings new challenges, as she has a completely different style of play. It's almost commentary – Crash representing games of yesteryear in the style he plays, while his sister represents the new, more female oriented crowd. Even the style she moves is different, while keeping the 3D platforming alive.

I played it for awhile, and even though a few parts felt like they weren't polished (some boring backgrounds, it was fun.

A few annoying parts popped up – long loading times (unless they were meant to be nostalgic too) and the really annoying Aku Aku character comes back, but it all wraps up in that updated nostalgia feel to the game. It's a great mix of past and present, and when it comes out for the PS4 at the end of the month, the N. Sane Trilogy should prove popular.
